Antoni Gaudi

The son of a coppersmith, Antoni Gaudi was born in Reus, Spain in 1852. He studied at the Escola Superior d'Arquitectura in Barcelona and designed his first major commission for the Casa Vincens in Barcelona using a Gothic Revival style that set a precedent for his future work.

Over the course of his career, Gaudi developed a sensuous, curving, almost surreal design style which established him as the innovative leader of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. With little regard for formal order, he juxtaposed unrelated systems and altered established visual order. Gaudi's characteristically warped form of Gothic architecture drew admiration from other avant-garde artists.

Although categorized with the Art Nouveau, Gaudi created an entirely original style. He died in Barcelona in 1926.

Yesterday

In my last post I said that I was going to talk about Antonio Gaudi but first I have to tell you about yesterday excursion.

Yesterday I went to the Globe theatre and I was suprised because I've always taught it was bigger.

Then, we went to Tate Modern. Tate is the United Kingdom's national museum of British and International Modern and Contemporary Art. I love art and I wanted to go to Tate once in England so I was quite happy. Why "quite" happy? Because we didn't have enough time to see everything! ...So I think I have to come back...I also want to go to the MOMA (the Museum Of Modern Art), but it's in New York...

Anyway, that's all for today. Next post will be for Gaudi, I swear.

Yesterday evening...today in E-comm class...

Yesterday evening I did bowling...it was cool, funny...

Well, I've got nothing more to write about bowling...or rather nothing to write at all. Actually I'm supposed to write something about the future like where I think I will be in 10 years, with who, doing what...or write about the "city of tommorrow". Thrilling, isn't it?

I'm thinking about Antonio Gaudi work, don't know why. Maybe because of those amazing building he draw which seems to be from another planet or from fairy tales. I think my next post will be about him.

Well, see U

One of my favorite movies

Today I'm going to talk about V for Vendetta, a movie I really like. Why? Because of the plot, the insane character "V", the way it was filmed...everything.

Here is the plot : The futuristic tale unfolds in a Great Britain that's a fascist state. A freedom fighter known as V uses terrorist tactics to fight the oppressive society. He rescues a young woman from the secret police, and she becomes his unlikely ally.

Dear mum and dad,

Hi mum, Hi dad!

I'm happy because it's been sunny these days. The first days were cloudy and it was raining, now it feels more like summer and I've made a lot of friends. There are people from all over the world here! Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Italians, Germans...
Yesterday I learnt how to play cricket. I also played table tennis and badminton the first week.

...well, so far so good...

See you

First Excursion

Yesterday (thursday) we went to London on a guided tour of the city and to visit the British Museum.

The Tour was nice, the guide taught us a lot of things about London and we saw some famous places like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the London Eye. We also watched the change of the guards which was interesting. We spent about one hour in the British Museum. I spent most of my time in the Egyptian part of the museum where I saw sarcophages and mummies
